Intro to Express.js: An Online Workshop

Express.js is a web application framework for Node.js. It is designed to help developers build web applications and APIs (Application Programming Interface) more efficiently. In the context of web development, an API is a set of rules and definitions that allows one software application to interact with another.  In this workshop, you’ll use Express to create a simple web app that provides users with motivational (or de-motivational!) quotes.

Express is the industry–standard for creating web applications, and understanding the fundamentals is your first step towards expanding your web development skills beyond the web page.

What you’ll learn

  • Setting up an Express application

  • Routing and handling different types of requests

  • Understanding REST principles

  • Creating API endpoints to perform CRUD operations

  • Working with JSON data

Who’s this for?

  • All Stockport residents aged 18 and above are welcome!

  • You’ll need fundamental knowledge of JavaScript, and Node.js (we also have an Intro to Node.js workshop if you don’t have this), as well as of using a text editor such as Visual Studio Code

  • You also need to have admin access to install software on your machine
