Intro to Node.js: an online workshop

Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript runtime environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a web browser, allowing us to use JavaScript to build backend applications.

In this workshop, you’ll use Node.js to build a server, which is a computer program that listens to requests from clients (like web browsers) and sends back responses (like web pages and their content). Learning Node.js is your first step towards transitioning from a front-end to full-stack developer.

What you’ll learn

  • Installing Node.js & configuring your development environment

  • Overview of built-in modules

  • Write a simple server using the HTTP module

  • Handling HTTP requests and sending responses

  • Understanding request and response objects

Want to learn Express.js as well? Check out our Intro to Express.js workshop here.
